There are almost as many types and sizes of Abbe Milling Jars as there are applications. Abbe Jars are available in a wide range of sizes and materials.

Milling jars are small scale version of the ball mills and are typically used in the laboratory or small scale production. The mill jars are rotated with the aid of a jar rolling mill, which has two rollers to support and rotate the jars at the proper speed. The milling jar is half filled with grinding media or balls from ¼” to 1” and as the mill rotates the solids are trapped between the ball and are milled down to as little as 1 micron by the cascading and tumbling action of the ball charge.

Milling can be performed either wet or dry. Milling jars available in carbon steel, stainless steel, ceramic, polyurethane lined or natural rubber lined. The milling jars are available in sizes from 0.1 usg to 5 usg.
