Process Equipment Rebuilding, Refurbishing and Reverse Engineering

Rebuilding process equipment can be a very economical way to restore equipment to original operating specifications or even improved design and functionality. Paul O. Abbe can rebuild all types and brands of process equipment including Sigma Blade Mixers, Mixer/Extruders, Ribbon and Paddle Blenders, Vacuum Dryers, Horizontal Rotary Dryers, Ceramic and Urethane lined and steel ball mills.

The rebuilding process starts by collecting information about the operating history of the equipment, what materials the equipment was processing, year of use, maintenance history, breakdowns, repairs and modifications.

EQUIPMENT HISTORY - Then we will want to know what the equipment will be used for in the future including product, viscosity, bulk density, abrasiveness etc., process parameters, vacuum and pressure, liquid addition, gas purge and temperature ranges.

TEARDOWN & INSPECTION - The next step is the complete teardown and inspection of the equipment at our shop. Teardown of equipment that has been in service for many decades can be challenging, but we have the skills and tools to disassemble any equipment, even old parts fused together through corrosion or cold welding.

Inspection may includes ultrasonic testing of shell thicknesses, X-ray diffraction identification of the alloys, dye penetrant tests for cracks, pressure testing and leak detection of jackets, shaft out of round and dimension measurements and seal and bearing condition.

REPORT – During teardown and inspection photographs are taken of every part and a detailed report is generated for submission to the customer describing every aspect of the equipment, wear and damage, causes if ascertainable and the recommended repairs.

Our fully equipment facility, skilled mechanics, welders and machinists can restore parts to original tolerances or fabricate new parts

Rebuilds can include completely new drives and motors, new instrumentation, piping, and electrical controls suited to the process environment including washdown or hazardous locations.

Our process, mechanical and electrical engineers can reverse engineer and rebuild any process equipment including those manufactured by:
